assess the impact of the boll weevil and drought on Georgia
The death of King Cotton
King Cotton had been very prosporous in Georgia, until it seemed that everything had suddenly gone wrong. Something was eating the cotton until it was no longer able to be used. That's right! It was the Boll weevil. The Boll weevil was a grayish, long snouted beetle that was eating up the coptton plant. The Boll weevil reduced the cotton acreage from 5.2 million acres to 2.6 million! King Cotton was slowly dieng. The Boll weevil wasn't the only reason though. A major drought hit Georgia with full force. A drought is a period with little to no rain. Without the rain, farmers could not grow cotton or enough cotton that they needed. King cotton was finally destroyed and Georgia's economy came to a stop. In this way, Georgia felt the depression long before any one else did because as cotton production went down, Georgia had nothing to live of of and get the money they needed.
