Active Voice vs. Passive voice
Active voice is where the subject performs or causes the action expressed by the verb. In a passive voice the subject is acted upon; he or she receives the action expressed by the verb. Here are some examples ;)
Active: She slammed on the breaks.
This is an example of a active voice because the subject performs the action.
Passive voice: The breaks were slammed on by her.
This is a passive voice because the action is being performed on the subject.
Hint: Most sentences with a passive voice have the word "by" before the subject.
Active Voice: She hit the dog.
Passive voice: The dog was hit by her.
Active: Sally changed the flat tire
Passive: The flat tire was changed by Sally
