Chattahoochee River
The Chattahoochee River is found in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Evidence states that people have been living near the Chattahoochee River for a very long time. In the 1830's towns used the Chattahoochee river as a source for textile mills and gristmills. When the Civil war began the Chattahoochee River was defended to no end. During the post word war 1-era, the Chattahoochee River was used as a source of hydroelectric power. Citizens built hydroelectric dams in 1899 and 1924. In 1953 Congress gave permission to build 4 dams for flood control. Today the Chattahoochee River is mostly used for drinking water recreation.
