Okefenokee Swamp
Is the largest swamp in North America and is located in South Georgia. Covers about 700 miles of Georgia. The swamp has a lot of variety of plants and animals. Grasses, Rushes, sedges and ferns are found in the drier region of the swamp, while water lilies, pickerel weed, yellow-eyed grass, and golden club are found in the wetter areas. The Okefenokee swamp is also home to many carnivorous plants. Animals that are found there often, are Wood stocks, Blue Herons, and white ibises. But their are many other bird species that live there. Their are also many otters, minks, and beavers. Alligat0rs and venomous snakes are common sightings in the swamp. Their are 14 different types of freshwater fishes in the swamp. The Okefenokee swamp got its name from an Indian word o-wa-qua-phenoga., which means land of the trembling earth. Though it is a freshwater swamp, you probably wouldn't want to drink it. The reason is that it is stained with tannic acid which makes the water black.
