The Mississippian Indians
The Mississippian Indians were organized as ranked societies. In societies they're are 2 groups: Elites and commoners. Elites had a higher social ranking then commoners. They believed that their king and his family were decedents from the sun. It was believed like many other tribes that their leader had supernatural powers, that included bringing the spring rain, and having a full harvest. Because of this elites were given special treatment. The commoners, however, did not get any special treatment, and had to grow food, made crafts, and served as warriors or laborers in public work projects. They lived mostly near rivers, and lived in small villages. A plaza, in the center of the town, that served as the gathering area. Some but not all Mississippian Indians had defensive structures to protect themselves. Their best achievement is their crafts, of stone, marine shells, pottery and native copper. They created cups, Gorgets, pendants, and necklaces. The Mississippian era was brought to an end because of the increasing population of Europeans in the area. This could have been the worst time in the Native Americans live. The deaths that European diseases and other things cause would have put Hitler to shame! The ones that were left came together to form the Creeks, Cherokee, and Seminoles.
