The Ridge and Valley Key=Ridge and valley= R&V
The ridge valley are bound to the east by the Blue Ridge, to the south by Piedmont, and to the northeast by the Appalachians. The geography of the ridge and valley include the erosion of sedimentary rock that were folded during the building of R&V. The ridges were formed on layers of sandstone and Chet, while Valleys are formed by shale or limestone. The distribution of the R&V played in important role in the westward expansion. Throughout the R&V Paleozoic sedimentary rocks were deposited when eastern North America was engulfed by the ancient Lapetus Ocean. Starting from oldest to youngest, The Paleozoic rocks made up the Cambrian, Ordovician, Silurian, Devonian, Mississippian, and Pennsylvanian systems (spanned from 299to 542 million years. Gondwana (supercontinent) collided with North America, and so deformed metamorphic rocks were pushed into North America and went over buckled sedimentary rock. 200 million years of weathering and erosion have made the Ride and Valley that we know today.
