Appalachian Plateau
The Appalachian Plateau is found in the Northwest corner of Georgia. The Plateau extends from New York, to Alabama, but only a small segment of it is in Georgia. The Appalachian Plateau was uplifted during the mountain building of the Appalachians. The Plateau has many valleys: Lookout Valley, McClemore Cove, and Sequatchie Valley. These valleys are eroded by limestone and shale, exposed along the crests of folds. These are the oldest rocks in the Plateau; dating from 542 million-359 million years ago. And the younger rocks date from 359 million to 299 million years ago. The Plateau is the smallest region of all of Georgia's areas.
